WHAT IS A SILENT BIKRAM CLASS?
The BodyMind Studio is very loyal to the Bikram Yoga sequence. We know it works. So we don't mess about with it. Students attend regular 90-minute classes to receive corrections and become stronger, mentally and physically. Everything in the sequence has been carefully chosen, with each posture preparing the body for the next one.
WON'T I GET LOST?
Not at all. We are all looking in the mirror and moving together. During the Floor Series, this shared energy means that we are more aware; listening for creaks in the floor, and other signs of movement to know when to come out of the posture. It becomes our own practice. The standing series is fast and intense. The student needs to find their edge quickly. Or not.
WHAT IF MY ENERGY IS LOW?
A silent class is perfect if you are in the mood for a gentler class, or have less time. We still do two sets of everything, but you can control how deep you go. We have a full two-minute savasana in the middle, 20 second savasanas throughout the floor series, and a full two-minute savasana at the end. Not a word is spoken. It can be a very peaceful, yet powerful experience.
DO I HAVE TO COME TO TAUGHT CLASSES TOO?
Yes! It is important to not to swap one for the other other. You still need corrections in your practice and to be able to work hard and build your stamina over one and a half hours.
WHEN CAN I LEAVE THE CLASS?
The teacher will be silently counting down final savassana and will sit up to signal that the final two minutes has passed and the class is over. Students are then free to leave.
AT WHAT POINT DOES THE SILENCE BEGIN?
We will maintain silence from when we begin until the end of the final breathing exercise.
